The purpose of World Traffic and Courtesy Driving Day is to raise awareness of the need for safe driving, in order to prevent accidents, to protect your life and that of other drivers and passengers. Although courtesy behind the wheel is a duty of all drivers throughout the year, on this day – May 5th – the importance of being courteous behind the wheel is remembered. As the road belongs to everyone, one must be aware of all movements, respect speed limits and priorities, give way, give signs of changing trajectory, among other behaviors. There are several road safety campaigns organized and promoted by governments and associations on this day to reduce the number of deaths on the road and to avoid behaviors that put the safety of drivers, passengers and pedestrians at risk.
