81 years ago, the “Mercado dos Lavradores” was inaugurated, a project designed in the style of the “Estado Novo” by the architect Edmundo Tavares (1892-1983). The inauguration was attended by, among other solemnities, the President of the General Board of the Autonomous District of Funchal, Dr. João Abel de Freitas (1893-1948), and the President of the Municipal Council of Funchal, Dr. Fernão de Ornelas (1908-1978), this being one of the reference works of his council mandate.
To mark the occasion, the “Museu de Fotografia da Madeira - Atelier Vicente's” shares a set of photographs of the inaugural event and also of the mercantile dynamics experienced over the years in the emblematic space of the Madeiran capital.
