The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, whose main objective is to make the general population aware of this reality, and thus promote inclusion and equality in society. This date goes back to 1998, the year in which the United Nations (UN) developed the convention on this topic.
We join this event with the publication of an overview from the parish of Santo António, which presents the “Quinta do Leme” building in the center, where the first Madeira Special Education establishment was based, in 1968. After more than 50 years of uninterrupted support for people with special educational needs, this space is still active, now as a Technical Service for Special Education.
