To commemorate this date we display some scenic views of the former D. Maria Pia Theatre (the current Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre), captured between 1888 (date of its inauguration) and 1905 (date of the death of Joaquim Augusto de Sousa, author of these photographs).
In these four snapshots one can observe the magnificent hand-painted scenarios, oil lamps, a designated area for the orchestra and another for the audience (the audience stripped of chair is also visible).
