Graça Pereira Coutinho was born in Lisbon, in 1947. Between 1966 and 1971, she attended the Sculpture course at the Lisbon College of Fine Arts, where she completed the third year. In 1971, she went to London to study, where she postgraduated at the St. Martins School of Art.

In London, at this time, the artist has a successful encounter with cultural diversity, the hippie movement and other Portuguese artists who were already there. It is in London that she establishes residence and where she still lives.

Between 1975 and 1977, she was a scholarship holder of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Graça Pereira Coutinho breaks down her artistic activity by a multiplicity of means of expression, painting, sculpture, photography and installation. Among the numerous institutions in which she held exhibitions, we highlight the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), the Serralves Foundation (Oporto), Caixa Geral de Depósitos (Lisbon), the Osaka Contemporary Art Museum (Japan), MAC (Badajoz), the National Historical Museum (Rio de Janeiro), the British Centre (São Paulo), the Ecco Cultural Centre (Brasília) and the the Sacred Art Museum of Funchal.

She often exhibits in Portugal and abroad: Todd Gallery, London; Graça Fonseca Gallery, Lisbon; Cristina Guerra Gallery, Lisbon; Porta 33 Gallery, Funchal; João Esteves de Oliveira Gallery, Lisbon, among others.

Her work is found in several private collections and in the collections of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, António Prates Foundation, PLMJ Foundation, Contemporary Art Museum of Belém (Brazil), Osaka Contemporary Art Museum (Japan), Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Belém Cultural Centre (Lisbon), among others. We also highlight the award received by the artist at the Osaka Triennial (Japan), in 1991.
