In the section Um dia, uma obra ("One day, one work”), we leave some notes about the artist João Queiroz.

Born in Lisbon, in 1957. He graduated in Philosophy at the Classical University of Lisbon, in 1984. He began exhibiting drawing and painting from the mid-1980s. Between 1989 and 2001, he taught Drawing, Painting and Art Theory at the Ar.Co, where he was also responsible for the Advanced Course in Fine Arts. He has been exhibiting drawing and painting regularly since 1985. He is represented in several private and institutional collections. He was the winner of the first edition of the EDP Prize, in 2000, in the Design discipline, and winner of the 2011 AICA Prize. He lives and works in Lisbon.

In his artistic practice, he has been developing an important work of drawing and painting linked to the representation of the landscape, guided by the study of visuality and the exercise of the concept, in a research path based on self-discovery, on experimental approaches of the mechanisms of perception and representation: “[My] interest in the landscape comes from painting and less from a romantic interest in nature. It comes from 19th-century visual experimentation. And it's related to the possibility of seeing things differently, of relating the act of seeing with the act of doing."
