On the 19th and 20th of September, the Porto Santo Cultural and Congress Center will host the international conference entitled “As Ilhas Atlânticas na Expansão Marítima de Porto Santo ao Planeta Oceano”. This is an initiative promoted within the scope of the program commemorating the 5th Centenary of the first Circum-Navigation, commanded by the Portuguese navigator Fernão de Magalhães and which is organized by the “Secretaria Regional de Turismo e Cultura”. 
Several topics will be in focus, in the form of a conference (“The Unknown Island. Madeira Sea, Porto Santo Sea”, “Nautical science in the expedition of Fernão de Magalhães”, “One hundred years that changed the world: the discovery of the Earth by the Portuguese and Spaniards to the journey of Fernão de Magalhães” and “Magalhães and the discovery of the blue planet”) or panels (“Macaronesia”, “Atlantic voyages and the first global world” and “Antonio Pigafetta as inspiration for Travel Literature”)
