“There is a place, on our Madeira Island, to which, almost all members of our family, dedicated a very special predilection.

It is “Santo António da Serra”, which everyone abbreviated to “Santo da Serra”, but which, for us, was just – “O Santo”. If we talked about going to “Santo”, soon everyone else knew that it was not “Santo Amaro”, “São Vicente”, “São Cristóvão” or “São Roque”. It was “Santo António da Serra”, the... “Santo”. The Santo is located on a plain, high in mountains and is an authentic symphony of trees, where each species is a brushstroke of different green. Up there, we feel like breathe in the air with great intensity and in that voluptuous inhaling the perfume. It is an odor unlike any other perfume, which we breathe in the rest of the island. The reason for this, can be said, is a miracle, because Nature as a whole is a miracle, it must come from the set of all that vegetative variety ”.

In “A Codorniz” by Carlos Cristóvão, 1989.
