It is composed of a set of 307 pieces, mostly of a religious nature, the Sculpture collection of the “Museu Quinta das Cruzes” testifies not only to the widespread ability of Sculpture in Portugal for the religious image, but also the historical design that, either through the process of Extinction of Religious Orders and their convents (1834), either by applying the Law of Separation of the Church from the State (1911), allowed individuals and the State to enter into possession of these objects.

The sculptural nucleus is mainly composed by the donation of César Filipe Gomes (in the years 1946 and 1962), by other donations, legacies and acquisitions made between the years 1950-1970 and has very broad chronological marks (from the mid-15th century to the mid-20th century), highlighting the pieces that can be dated from the 15th to the 18th centuries.

As in the rest of the Museum's collection, the Sculpture Collection includes cultural goods that can be grouped into three major categories of production: pieces of national origin (as is the case with the Figures of Cribs); pieces of European origin (such as the Flemish Sculpture nucleus); and the pieces made in the East (oriental and Indo-Portuguese ivories).

Also included in this collection, there is various elements of Architectural, Heraldic and Funerary Sculpture that make up the Sculptural Nucleus are scattered throughout the gardened park.

Another nucleus worth mentioning is the works of Madeiran sculptor Francisco Franco (1885-1955), active in the first half of the 20th century and associated with the artistic production of the “Estado Novo”. Of this set of pieces, donated by the Miguéis family in 1974, part is given to the “Museu Henrique and Francisco Franco”, in Funchal.
