International Museum Day is celebrated annually on May 18th. The date has been celebrated since May 18th, 1977, by the proposal of ICOM – International Council of Museums (a NGO maintaining formal relations with UNESCO). On this day, several museums have free admission, and it is possible to visit their exhibitions and works, as well as to participate in initiatives prepared to commemorate International Museum Day. The opening hours of museums are extended with the aim of making it possible for more people to visit the country's museums.
