Community Houses National Day is celebrated on September 11th. Community Houses first appeared in 1933 with Decree-Law No. 23051. They were created by the Estado Novo regime, as a key part of the corporate organization of rural work. Over the years, Community Houses changed their performance, but maintained the objective of contributing to the social and cultural development of local communities. It was in 1982, with Law no. 4/82 of January 11th, that Community Houses began to hold the legal status of corporate bodies of public utility, with an associative nature. Currently, the activities of Community Hopuses consist mainly of supporting seniors and children, occupying their free time and promoting socializing events among the population.
