Manuel Domingos de Gouveia e Freitas (b. Caniço, 08/04/1904; f. Funchal, 12/20/1973), professor, politician and journalist. 
He graduated from the former “Instituto Superior do Comércio de Lisboa”, (currently “Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão”). He was director of the “Escola Industrial e Comercial de António Augusto de Aguiar”, today “Escola Secundária Francisco Franco”, where he was also secretary and teacher.
As a journalist, he published several articles on politics and economics in the weekly newspaper “A Tribuna” and in “O Jornal”.
He was secretary of the district commission of the National Union of Funchal and member of the Funchal City Hall.
