Carlo de Bianchi (b. Funchal, 11/17/1834; d. Funchal, 6/2/1910). He was the son of João António Bianchi (from Lombardy) and D. Nicoleta (from Genoa) and was married to D. Ana Velosa Castelo Branco, with whom he generated Ferdinando Maximiliano de Bianchi (godson of the emperor of Mexico) and Dr. Carlos de Bianchi. He studied in his mother's homeland and at the age of 21 returnes to Madeira, where he served as consul of Austria throughout his life. He was also consul of Spain and Belgium. In 1863 he received the Ritter Von (Knight) title from his imperial majesty Francisco José of Austria, and was also awarded with: Commendation by Isabel of Spain, Notre Dame de Guadalupe of Mexico, 2nd class of the Austrian iron crown; Knight of the Order of Leopoldo of Belgium and the commemorative medal of Jubilee of the emperor Francisco José of Austria. He died at the age of 77 in his residence, in “Largo da Igrejinha”.
