São Pedro Parish, Funchal Municipality. To the left of Joaquim de Abreu's "Relojoaria Internacional” store, is “Rua da Carreira” and to the right is “Rua das Pretas”. On this street is “Caixa Económica Gonçalves Zarco”, which was attached to the Mutual Aid Association in Disability Gonçalves Zarco, founded in Funchal, on April 6, 1918, with the objective of creating a solidarity system and protection for its members through retirement payments, monthly pensions during the disability period and subsidies for funeral expenses. “Caixa Económica Gonçalves Zarco's” articles of association were published by the Alvará of January 16, 1923. The Mutual Aid Association of Inabilities Gonçalves Zarco merged with the Mutual Aid Association September 4, 1862, on July 13, 1971, that the incorporation of assets and liabilities of “Caixa Económica Gonçalves Zarco” in “Caixa Económica do Funchal” was granted in the following month. At the time this image was captured, “Avenida Zarco” had not yet been open.
