Today, counting 82 years on the inauguration of radiotelephone communications between the Portugal Continent and Funchal. The “Companhia Portuguesa Rádio Marconi”, formed from a concession contract signed between the Portuguese Government and Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company Limited, started the radiotelephone communications service in 1937, establishing direct connections with several European capitals such as London, Berlin and Paris. Funchal was officially linked to December 10, 1938, with the official act taking place in the office of the Minister of Public Works and Communications, engineer Duarte Pacheco (1900-1943).
