Today is the 14th birthday of Abel de Caires Soares (b. Funchal, 9/2/1879; d. Funchal, 14/1/1963), consul of Uruguay in Madeira. Throughout his professional career, he worked as insurance company manager “Aliança Madeirense” (where he started as a clerk), was an employee of the Funchal General Board Public Works and also worked as a customs broker. The portrait accompanying this publication was taken when he was 20 years old.
