The “Museu de Fotografia da Madeira - Atelier Vicente's” marks today the 140th anniversary of the birth of Vicente Ângelo Gomes da Silva (b. Funchal, 12/14/1881; d. Funchal, 04/17/1954), grandson of the founder of “Photography Vincent”.
He continued the family tradition and worked as a photographer, having recorded some historical events, such as the passage of the Presidents of the Republic, Dr. António José de Almeida and Marechal António Óscar de Fragoso Carmona, and also the stay in Madeira by aviators Carlos Veigas Gago Coutinho and Artur Freire Sacadura Cabral. He joined the management of "Photographia Vicente" in 1929, when a new commercial company was created, under the name "Casa Vicente, Lda", then managed by himself (a third part) and by his father, Vicente Gomes da Silva Júnior (in two-thirds). In 1933, with the death of his father, he forms new management with his son Vicente Bettencourt Gomes da Silva (1902-1960), in a company with identical capital. He remained active until his death, in a photographic house that recorded important moments in our history for 4 generations.
