The “Museu de Fotografia da Madeira - Atelier Vicente's” shares today a set of photographs of some examples of cribs, localy known as "lapinhas de rochinha", which, in parallel with the stair cribs, constitute one of the most characteristic traditions of the Madeiran Christmas season.
The “rochinha” is often made using paper darkened with viochene, and evokes not only the birth of the boy, but also recreates traditions, customs and the island’s own orography.
