Dr. João Vicente Silva (b. Estreito C.ª Lobos, 1803 - d. Estreito C.ª Lobos, 9 October 1895), a surgeon who was acclaimed for his service during the Cholera morbus epidemic in 1856, which killed more than 7 thousand people. His devoted work on behalf of the poor and the “exposed” (newborns abandoned by their parents and sent to charity institutions) was also remarkable. He was Dr. António Evaristo de Ornelas’ uncle, the 1st baron of Ornelas.
