José Viana da Motta (Saint Thomas, Saint Thomas and Prince, 22nd April 1868 - Lisbon, 1st June 1948) was a Portuguese pianist, composer, conductor and musician. He was one of Franz Liszt's last students who career, as concert pianist, started in 1887. He performed all over the world and played for presidents, Kings and Emperors. He stood out among the distinguished pianists of his time and was particularly praised, by the press and critics, for his interpretations of Bach, Beethoven and Liszt. He was Director of the Lisbon Conservatory from 1919 to 1938.
