The exhibition aims to raise people’s attention and awareness towards the importance of the role played by the Madeira Island in Portuguese military history. Simultaneously, it introduces the historical evolution of the São Lourenço fortress construction works, where is located the Military Headquarters of Madeira.
The museum occupies three rooms of the ancient fortress, where it’s possible to observe several collections of arms dated from the 18th century until today. It also holds a collection of antique bronze artillery pieces, weaponry and is strongly illustrated with diversified iconography representing the history of the Portuguese Army in Madeira.
