MedidasApoio2020Emergency Support Line for the Arts and Culture Sector of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The Regional Government Council, after gathering on Plenary session, on 2 April 2020, decided to create an exceptional and temporary support helpline destinated to both non-profit cultural entities and artists based in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, designated Emergency Support Line for the Arts and Culture Sector of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

The regulation for this Support Line service was also approved.
The Support Line integrates the framework of exceptional and temporary measures related to the epidemiological situation of the new Coronavirus - COVID 19, aimed at cultural and artistic entities in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which were deprived of income and suffered non-refundable expenses due to the suspension of their activity.

The Government Council also determined to mandate the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture, to represent the Regional Government to manage the Emergency Support Line for the Arts and Culture Sector, under the terms defined in the Regulation.
This support will be granted on an exceptional and non-repayable basis, by signing a programme contract to be awarded by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, with the approved applicants, as to the expenses that are subsumable and within the eligibility rules defined in the respective Regulation.
The Government Council decided to set a maximum amount for the purposes of the Emergency Support Line for the Arts and Culture Sector in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, of € 200,000.

For the Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, "this is a historical measure in terms of public policies for Culture. Not only in Autonomous Region of Madeira, but at national level since it is fully supported by the regional budget and is complementary to others already announced at national level.
It is our contribution to support job maintenance in the Arts and Culture sector, at the level of associations, collectives, entities and structures of production and artistic creation, as well as professionals of this sector, seeking to ease the negative impact of COVID-19 in artistic creation minimizing the losses suffered by professionals in the areas of Visual Arts, Dance, Music and Theater. Our main concern is to contribute to the safeguarding of expected staff costs and overheads, in order to ensure the maintenance of project-related jobs and the conditions for a rapid resumption of activities as soon as possible."
