Christmas is highly celebrated at Madeira. Family and friends’ gatherings succeed one to another and homes are decorated according to the season and the spirit. This is the atmosphere that we want to glorify at “Casa-Museu Frederico de Freitas” by offering a guided tour linked to the Xmas collections. Nativity scenes of regional and national origin, dating from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, are assembled along the varied rooms of the “Casa-Museu Frederico de Freitas”. A special highlight must be given to the figure of the Baby Jesus enthroned on steps; to the 18th and 19th century crib boxes and to the large rock crib. Both in the Dining and Tea Rooms, the tables are set displaying English silverware, crystal glass and embroidery thus rendering a special atmosphere to the museum. Only then are we ready to commemorate and enjoy Christmas.
